Here are the top stories in Dallas-Hiram today:
- Hiram native Jameson Riggs has included Ohio State among his top school choices in the latest list he released. As a four-star offensive tackle, Riggs has narrowed down his list of over 30 scholarship offers to include Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, LSU, Auburn, Duke, USC, Tennessee, Penn State, and Vanderbilt. Having already received a scholarship offer from Ohio State in January, Riggs visited with the team during the spring practice. The Buckeyes are keen on getting Riggs back on campus this summer, especially as they have been focusing on offensive linemen in their 2024 class, with commitments from four players already. - Hiram's Chase Tyler is among the high-priority prospects for the Michigan Wolverines, who have claimed the top spot in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings with 14 commitments so far. With their unique approach of getting to know the recruits and building a strong bond with the already committed players, the Wolverines are aiming to create one of the best classes in the country, starting with securing the big boys up front and going for more running backs and outside receivers. (247Sports)
- South Paulding High School's Jamarion Wilcox, a 3-star running back, has joined Kentucky's solid 2023 recruiting class. According to head coach Mark Stoops, Wilcox is a "lightning bolt." Recruiting good running backs is vital, and Kentucky has had success in that department under Stoops' tenure. (SI)
- Georgia has ranked 26 in the annual best states ranking by U.S. News & World Report. The state scored highly in the categories of economy and natural environment but ranked lower in health care, education, and crime and corrections. Researchers evaluated more than 70 metrics across eight categories, giving more weight to categories like education and health care. Hawaii topped the list for health care and natural environment, and Utah ranked the highest for the economy and fiscal stability. (Patch)
- The writers' strike that started on May 2 may have a significant impact on Georgia's film and TV industry, potentially affecting thousands of workers. The film and television industry is a significant economic driver for the state, generating $4.4 billion dollars in 2022. Georgia hosted 412 productions between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2022, represented by 32 feature films, 36 independent films, 269 television and episodic productions, 42 commercials, and 33 music videos. Studios like Shadowbox Studios in Atlanta could be affected as the strike shuts down production of films and TV shows nationwide. (GPB)
