Police: Suspect Arrested for Villa Rica, Marietta Bank Robberies

Police believe James Herbert Emory of Villa Rica is responsible for the robberies committed on Aug. 14 and Aug. 19.

Police have arrested a man suspected in recent nearby armed robberies of banks in Villa Rica and Marietta.

Villa Rica said James Herbert Emory, 45, of Villa Rica, was identified as the suspect in the Aug. 19 robbery of a United Community Bank in Villa Rica, as well as the Aug. 14 robbery at a BB&T branch in Marietta.

Emory was arrested in Atlanta Thursday night, Aug. 20, and was taken to Marietta PD headquarters, Villa Rica PD said.

The FBI, Paulding County Sheriff’s Office and Marietta PD assisted in the investigation.

Charges pending in Carroll County include armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during commission of a crime.

“Detective [Blake] Terry was relentless in his investigation and his hard work paid off in the solving of not only the bank robbery in Villa Rica but the robbery in Marietta as well,” Villa Rica PD Capt. Keith Shaddix said in a statement.

“The information sharing and cooperation between departments was vital to the success of this investigation.”

In the Villa Rica robbery, the suspect entered the United Community Bank location at 485 West Bankhead Highway, brandished a handgun wrapped in cloth, and announced it was a robbery, the FBI said.

After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, he walked out of the building and was seen leaving in a late 1990’s or early 2000 burgundy Ford Explorer SUV.

In the Marietta robbery, the suspect entered the BB&T location on Whitlock Avenue with a handgun wrapped in a gray shirt. He left the bank in a red vehicle, the FBI said.
