DECATUR, GA — A group of five men spent about $40,000 on groceries for strangers in a pre-Thanksgiving act of good will at a Kroger store in Decatur.

The group of entrepreneurs took over all 12 cash registers at the Kroger on Wesley Chapel for a full two hours, paying the bills for all shoppers in the store during that time, 4WWL reports.

Jason Lobdell told the news station the original plan was to hand out gift cards to everyone, but that was taking too long. Then, it was time for Plan B.

"We literally took up every register at the grocery store and family after family would go through. We took over all 12 aisles for two hours," Lobdell said.

Originally planned by Lobdell and his friends — Alix Burton, Marcus Barney, Neo Davis and Jonathan Gooch — as a "full shutdown" to spend about $30,000 on groceries for everyone inside the store, the group went ahead and spent an additional $10,000.

The news station said the men had the receipts draped around their necks like "a badge of honor."

"I'm still floating on cloud nine after seeing those faces and getting all those hugs from the grannies and whipping those tears," Lobdell said. "It was just a good feeling. A lot of us come from those situations and that type of background. So we understand the true meaning of giving back and pouring back into our community."
