Update: Body Found Off I-20 Is Missing DeKalb Grandmother: Authorities

A badly composed body Wednesday found alongside Interstate 20 is confirmed to be missing 78-year-old Millicent Williams, DeKalb police say.

DECATUR, GA -- The body found a day ago alongside Interstate 20 in DeKalb County has been confirmed to be that of 78-year-old Millicent Williams, who was reported missing on July 28. The DeKalb Medical Examiner positively identified the remains on Thursday.

Law enforcement launched an investigation after finding the body Wednesday in a wooded area near the interstate close to the Flat Shoals Road exit. The body was so badly decomposed that law enforcement was unable to tell if the remains were male or female, DeKalb police told local media. Authorities believe Williams may have killed his mother based on evidence they found when they searched the home, including a large amount of blood throughout the place. Blood was reportedly found on her floor, in her bed and on bedsheets in the garage.

Officials had been searching for nearly a month for the woman. "It's difficult because it's such a large area," DeKalb police Sgt. Shiera Campbell told WAGA-TV a week ago. "If you think about DeKalb County, all of the parks, all of the walking trails, the bodies of water -- there's so many different areas."
