Decatur Commission Candidate Releases Goals For The City
District 1 Decatur Commission candidate Melissa Manrow shares her plans for the city.
DECATUR, GA -- Decatur Commission candidate for District 1, Melissa Manrow is sharing her plans for the city. Manrow, a licensed attorney who works in the DeKalb Sheriff's Office, declared her candidacy earlier this year.
A handful of candidates have declared for the District 1 seat, occupied by Fred Boykin, who is retiring and will not run for re-election. Manrow laid out her goals for Decatur in a news release this week. She said that she wants to foster housing access for “all ages and stages” of a person's life. "Our hometown should have a variety of housing options that are affordable to all members of our diverse community," she said.

She also wants to encourage strong succession planning for the senior staff at the city of Decatur. She said that several employees with at least a quarter-century of experience are considering retiring in the next three years.
She also supports the strategic planning process of the Decatur Police Department. The force is in the midst of a self-examination of best practices and looking to continue fostering good relations with the community.
