DeKalb County Police Department To Host Citizens Academy

From Aug. 27 to Sept. 24, the DeKalb County Police Department will host its citizens police academy every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

DEKALB COUNTY, GA—Ever wonder what it's like to be a police officer? If you answered 'yes,' you'll soon have an opportunity to find out.

From Aug. 27 to Sept. 24, the DeKalb County Police Department will host its citizens police academy every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Due to the coronavirus, the academy will take place online.

Virtual sessions will cover/offer:

-Overview of the department
-Police scenarios
-Use of force
-Internals affairs
-Overview court
-Crisis intervention
-Self defense and gun safety

To take part in the academy, participants must be at least 21 years of age, live or work in DeKalb County, have no prior felony convictions and must consent to a background check.

Anyone interested in taking part in the upcoming academy can request an application by emailing Shanethia Robinson at smrobinson@dekalbcountyga.gov.

The application deadline to apply is Aug. 6.
