DeKalb Resident Among Girl Scout Honorees

On Nov. 2, 2013, the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta awarded four talented and skillful adults who have dedicated their time to the troops of DeKalb County.

Kippy Shea, a volunteer from DeKalb County is receiving the Pioneer Award to recognize the invaluable and dedicated commitment to her troop, service unit, county, the council or the entire Girl Scout Movement. Kippy has been an adult volunteer for at least seven years while serving in one or more volunteer capacities and is currently registered as an adult member. Open to all levels of volunteers, she has both given freely of her time, skills and talents, marking the way for others to follow.

Debra Burns-Kaurin, Shawanda Reynolds-Cobb and Stacy Parrish, also volunteers from DeKalb County received Appreciation Awards to acknowledge the efforts of volunteering in one specific volunteer position. As current registered volunteer members of Girl Scouts of the USA, Debra, Shawanda and Stacy have been volunteers for a minimum of two years and contribute to the Girl Scout Mission through the policies and procedures outlined in the Volunteer Essentials.

Out of over 19,000 adult volunteers in the greater metropolitan Atlanta area, this award is quite prestigious. The recognition Girl Scouting provides is a powerful reinforcement of the qualities and service it values. Awarded and earned recognitions provide the means to acknowledge individuals and service teams for their unique and outstanding service.
