After being closed for four days this week, the DeKalb County School District has decided on classes for Friday, Sept. 15.

DECATUR, GA --After being closed for four days this week, the DeKalb County School District has decided to reopen classrooms for Friday, Sept. 15. The school district is one of the last to resume activities in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

Of all of metro Atlanta, DeKalb was hit especially hard due to the storm's driving rain and strong winds, which caused mass power outages in the area. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app.)

"All schools and offices will reopen on Fri. Sept. 15," the district said on social media. "All extracurricular & sporting events will go on as scheduled." The school system cautioned that delays may happen due to school buses trying to navigate through storm-struck areas. "We ask for your patience as we re-open schools safety."
