Monday Essentials: Pig Roast, Peach Jam At Decatur Farmers Market

Whole Pig Roast & Peach BBQ Sauce Competition. The Decatur Farmers Market will help celebrate Georgia’s favorite fruit (duh, the peach) with a pig roast and peach BBQ sauce contest. Happens 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Decatur Farmers Market in the Bank of America parking lot at Church and Commerce. This is the first of four "Peach Jam" events sponsored by Slow Food Atlanta and Community Farmers Markets June 26-30. Free admission.
Happy birthday, Brick Store. The pub on the Decatur Square will celebrate its 16th year of existence starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday. There will be 16 beers never tapped before at the pub, 16 dollar food features and … you get the idea.

Walk and talk. Ren and Helen Davis have written Atlanta Walks: A Comprehensive Guide to Walking, Running, and Bicycling the Area’s Scenic and Historic Locales. On Monday, they’ll sign books at 6:30 p.m. at the Decatur Library, give a presentation at 7 p.m. and lead a guided walking tour of Decatur at 7:30 p.m. Free.
A little bit of the Bard. Actors will visit the Little Shop of Stories at 7 p.m. Thursday to preview the Georgia Shakespeare Company’s new play, Mighty Myths and Legends. Free.Open mic. For 19 years, Eddie’s Attic has invited up and coming songwriters to perform their material at the venerable folk club. Starts at 7:30 p.m. Monday. $5 in advance, $6 at the door.
