Street Repaving Project Begins Monday In Downtown Decatur
Drivers should expect temporary lane closures and traffic delays during the downtown Decatur repaving project, which begins Monday, July 24.
DECATUR, GA -- Motorists around downtown Decatur on Monday will see road crews and smell tar as a repaving project gets underway. Weather permitting, the city's downtown streets will get repaved in a plan that is expected to take two to three days.
North McDonough will remain open to two-way traffic while East Howard will be closed while it is being resurfaced. Traffic will be limited on North Candler Street, East Howard Avenue and Barry Street during the project. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Drivers should expect temporary lane closures and traffic delays during the work. On-street parking will not be available on the affected streets during the work. Pedestrian will still be able to access the streets, the city said. The project is being done in preparation for the new school year, which commences August 1.

The street work is part of the North McDonough Streetscape Improvement plan, which includes reducing the roadway to two vehicle lanes, widening the sidewalks, and creating a two-way “cycle track” on the west side of the street.
The project will also add traditional streetscape improvements such on-street parking and significant “green infrastructure” improvements to improve storm water quality.
