DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Douglasville City Council approved a $12.1 million contract with Carrollton-based Ra-Lin and Associates last week on the downtown amphitheater and town green project, paving the way for construction to begin.

Construction on the town green and amphitheater project — located at the intersection of Church Street and Club Drive — is estimated to start sometime this month and be completed by March 2023, city documents show. Council already approved the issuance of revenue bonds last month to pay for the construction, which will be paid back over 25 years from revenue generated by the project.

The existing elevator tower and bridge at that location will be redeveloped as part of the project, with the bridge becoming an event space for up to 179 people. The existing tower will be renovated and a third floor will be added for smaller events.

A new concessions building with restrooms is also in the plans, with the top floor dedicated as a rooftop event space capable of holding 235 people.

Additionally, the city is also working with a different developer — Mill Creek — to incorporate 10,000 square feet of retail space, 350 apartments and parking as part of the town green project, City Manager Marcia Hampton told the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, according to the Douglas County Sentinel.
