16 Charged With Sex Trafficking In Douglas County: Police

Douglas County agencies involved used undercover officers to nab 16 people, as young as 17, on sex trafficking charges, police said.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Sixteen people who were allegedly part of a human sex trafficking ring were arrested in Douglas County last week, according to police.

Police have not released the identities of those arrested. The agencies involved used undercover officers, social media sites, and local hotel rooms to conduct the operation. Sixteen people were arrested and warrants were issued for others. The youngest person involved was seventeen years old.

On January 23 and 24, the Douglasville Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Homeland Security conducted a joint operation to combat prostitution and human trafficking in Douglas County.

The focus of the investigation was to identify and offer services to those who are victims of human sex trafficking. Arrests were also made for prostitution, pimping, pandering, human trafficking, as well as various drugs offenses and outstanding warrants.

The dates were specifically selected to be near the Super Bowl, as this is always a time of increased prostitution and pandering activity in the host city.

The Douglasville Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are committed to continuing to fight human trafficking, as it preys on the youngest and most vulnerable in our country.
