2 Arrested In Douglasville Brawl Despite Police Chief's Warning

News of the fight between 10 teens came after the Douglasville police chief warned residents about violence at the Arbor Place Mall.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Two days after sending a warning about violence during National Cinema Day at Arbor Place Mall, Douglasville Police reported a fight broke out and led to two arrests.

Police said on National Cinema Day, when movie tickets were discounted Sunday, about 10 teenagers began to fight around 5:45 p.m. inside of Arbor Place.

Officers working at the mall arrested two people related to the fight, police said.

"At some point a sign fell, causing a loud noise, which resulted in people reporting gunshots. There is no evidence of any gunshots, and there are no reported injuries as a result of the fight," police said Sunday in a Facebook post.

Regal Cinema, Arbor Place's movie theater, was closed for the remainder of the night due to the fight.

In a past Facebook post, Douglasville Police Chief Dr. Gary Sparks had sent a warning to parents about monitoring their children's behavior and being mindful of their activities while at the mall.

"Don't let the mall's movies raise your child. When they get out of your presence, they might do things that will come back and embarrass you," Sparks said in the post.

" ... Even if your child is good while you're around, it doesn't guarantee they won't join in activities that could get them hurt or arrested when they're with their friends."

His warning came almost a year after an adult and 19 juveniles were arrested on charges such as disorderly conduct, affray and simple battery in connection with large fights at the inaugural National Cinema Day on Sept. 3, 2022. Nine people were charged on suspicion of violating the Georgia Street Gang and Terrorism Prevent Act.

Police did not release charges in Sunday's fight.
