- A shooting at a house party in Douglasville on Saturday has left two people dead and six injured. Authorities report the shooting stemmed from a confrontation at a Sweet 16 party attended by over 100 teenagers. As of Monday afternoon, the "very active investigation" is ongoing and details on the case are limited; anyone with information on the assailant is asked to contact the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. - The Carrollton Douglasville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and the Community Diamonds Foundation donated $15,800 to the Douglas County School System to pay off outstanding school lunch debt. The donation will cover balances for all 20 elementary schools, as well as Stewart Middle School and Douglas County High School. The idea to help families in need arose when a fraternity member inquired about paying student lunch balances and discovered many families struggle to cover the cost of school lunches. - REMINDER: One westbound lane along Blairs Bridge Road will continue to be closed during weekdays, from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., through Friday, Mar. 10. The closure is due to the ongoing Cobb Sewer Tunnel Connection. Though flaggers will be present to direct traffic, the Douglasville-Douglas County Water-Sewer Authority recommends motorists take alternate routes during construction. (Press Release Desk)
- The Douglasville Police Department invites the community to its next Evening Yoga Class on Wednesday, Mar. 22, at 5:30 p.m. The session will be held in the Community Room, located next to the police department. Attendees are asked to bring their own mats. (Douglasville Police Department)
- Agriculture students at Alexander High School recently planted six American Chestnut trees on campus in a bid to restore the tree's population. The school partnered with Douglasville-Douglas County Friends of the American Chestnut to participate in this unique service and learning opportunity.
