  1. The Douglasville Police Department recently had its first official Community Enrichment Meeting of the new year. The topic of discussion during this first meeting of 2023 was "building the community." If you missed out on this meeting and would like to take part in an upcoming one, join the Douglasville Police Department and community members on the second and fourth Thursday of the month. Meetings take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Douglasville PD Community Room. (Douglasville Police Department)
  2. Tonight, the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/ Douglas County (CAC) will be hosting an opening reception for a collection to inspire the Nations. The exhibit, titled “Descendants Ascending” is on display through Feb. 17, weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., in honor of Black History Month. The reception will take place tonight (Jan. 28) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. (Patch)
  3. In nearby Hiram, a home daycare owner was arrested after being accused of assaulting five children. Goldia Marie Lipsky, 63, was arrested on Wednesday for the alleged assaults, which were caught on camera, according to the Paulding County Sheriff's Office on Friday. Lipsky, who operates Reach for the Sky Academy at Mill Creek Lane, has been charged on suspicion of one count of aggravated assault, two counts of first-degree cruelty to children, and five counts of third-degree cruelty to children, authorities said.   4. In nearby Paulding County, seventh-grader Sumaya Bell from P.B. Ritch Middle School was named the 2023 Paulding County School District's Spelling Bee Champion! Bell's winning word was "progeny." Next, Bell and seventh-grader runner-up Kate Laster from Austin Middle School will advance to regionals which take place in February.   5. Next week, the Douglas County Public Library will be hosting an Anti-Valentine's Day edition of Bad Art Night. During the event, teens and tweens are invited to come and make their most horrible masterpieces and have fun. The event will take place on Feb. 2 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at 6810 Selman Drive.
