60+ Teams To Set New Bar For Georgia Gravity Games

DOUGLASVILLE, GA -- This Saturday, November 3, Google, Georgia Tech and the City of Douglasville will welcome more than 60 teams made up of students from more than 30 schools across the state for the 5th annual Georgia Gravity Games competition in downtown Douglasville. This year’s Games will be the largest in the event’s 5-year history.

Gravity Games is a gravity-only car race competition, providing students an experiential learning opportunity involving STEM subjects. Registered teams have engineered and built their own cars for the competition. The race categories include stock, super stock, scottie stock, engineered and a newly-created autonomous (self-driving/driverless) division.

The event is free and open to the public. Google, Georgia Tech and the City of Douglasville are expecting well over 2,000 visitors. Racing will start at 9 a.m. and the awards ceremony should happen about 2:45 p.m.

In addition to watching the races, there will be a number of food vendors, including Bojangles, Chick-fil-A, Marco’s Pizza, On the Roll Maine Lobster, Kona Ice and MokiPops.

The event will also feature Science Street, a free exhibit with hands-on activities and presentations from area organizations, including the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Children's Museum of Atlanta, Severe Storms Research Center, Kids Drone Zone, Georgia Power and more.

Limited edition 2018 Georgia Gravity Games T-shirts will also be available for sale. All proceeds will go to the Douglas County Public Education Trust (PET) and will help sponsor teams in future Games that do not have the resources to build a car.
