Here are the top five stories today in Douglasville:
- A police chase ended in Douglasville early Friday morning, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office reports. The chase terminated on I-20 eastbound at the Fairburn Road exit; lanes were temporarily closed but reopened before 7 a.m. that morning. Information on the incident is limited at this time, and the investigation is ongoing. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- On Monday, Feb. 27, the Douglas County Chamber will be headed to the Georgia State Capitol. Starting at 8 a.m., Chamber members will meet with Douglas County and Georgia delegates for breakfast and networking. Following this, attendees will sit in for a portion of the morning's legislative session. (Douglas County Chamber via Burbio)
- The Douglasville Police Department is still seeking vendors for its upcoming Spring Festival on Saturday, Apr. 1. Vendors with food trucks, handmade and homemade items, clothing, beauty products, artwork, and more will be considered; booths are available for a fee of $40. Those interested can contact Sgt. Dean via email (deans@douglasvillega.gov) or phone (678-293-1621) and request a vendor application. (Douglasville Police Department via Facebook)
- Daylight saving time will begin in Georgia on Mar. 12, with the state currently unable to opt out of the Uniform Time Act of 1966 that mandates it. While a bill was proposed in 2021 to observe standard time year-round and thus exempt the state from the time change, it failed. Last year, Governor Brian Kemp signed a bill into law that made daylight saving time permanent in the Peach State; however, time changes across the state are still observed. The Sunshine Protection Act, which would allow for year-round daylight saving time, has passed in the Senate but has yet to be approved in the House. (Georgia Patch)
- A Saturday brunch combined with a day of family recreation is the perfect weekend outing —made even better with the introduction of Rec-N-Roll, a new program in Douglasville aimed at connecting local neighborhoods and communities. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 11, at Fowler Field Park from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and promises games, food trucks, and more information on how you can get involved with Rec-N-Roll.
