Book Donation Inspires Students Throughout Black History Month

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA – South Metro Atlanta Tuskegee Alumni Club members are donating books about a historically black college and university to inspire Douglas County students during Black History month. “Hey Tuskegee!” by Tuskegee University alum Robert E. Constant is now part of the reading collection in nine elementary school libraries.

“Hey Tuskegee!” follows an African American brother and sister as they study the accomplishments of African Americans throughout history. The two young students have the opportunity to visit the university founded by Booker T. Washington and Lewis Adams. Along the way, the students explore the rich history and culture of African American colleges and universities. Tuskegee alumni made the book donation to introduce students to the endless educational opportunities beyond high school.

“It delights the South Metro Atlanta Tuskegee Alumni Club to put this exciting book in the hands of young readers,” President Nicholas White says. “By delving into the rich stories and traditions woven throughout the book, we hope to get students excited about exploring the legacies of our country’s historically black colleges and universities.”

Tuskegee alumni purchased and hand-delivered seventy books to several elementary school libraries. Through scholarships and service, the South Metro Atlanta Alumni chapter reinforces the mission of Tuskegee University throughout Atlanta.
