  1. The Douglas County Appraisal Department in Georgia has urged residents to carefully review their property tax assessment notices due to a software glitch that caused approximately 15,000 parcels to be inaccurately assessed without the homestead exemption. Roughly one-third of the paper statements were affected, prompting the department to issue corrected notices. Chief Appraiser Steve Balfour apologized for the inconvenience and assured affected property owners that the department is actively working to rectify the issue and address any concerns or questions promptly.   2. The Douglasville Teen Alliance Summit: Shark Tank Edition starts today Jun. 29. This multiple-day event is designed to promote personal and professional development. Teens who have business ideas are encouraged to participate in the Shark Tank sessions. Youth will be able to present their ideas before a panel of business leaders from the community and staff at the Summit. The event will include motivational speakers, breakout sessions, group discussions and team-building exercises. (Douglasville, GA - Government)
  3. Douglas County Government, headquartered in Douglasville, is looking for new talent. If you are interested in obtaining a government position, check out the current openings listed on the job board.   4. On Wednesday, Jun. 28, the Douglas County Chamber announced the participants for its Leadership Douglas Class 2024. The "visionary partners" vary in age and are from a variety of backgrounds.   5. Check out the nearby Rockmart Farmers Market today where the first tomato show of the season will be held along with the availability of peaches. Additionally, there will be a wide range of other fresh produce and pastured raised chicken, baked goods, flowers, plants, jewelry, handsewn items, breads, eggs, honey, crochet items, take-n-bake casseroles, and tamales. In addition, a free kids activity of Rock Painting will be offered, allowing children to either take their painted rocks home or hide them for others to discover.
