  1. The Douglas County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its 2023 Winter Ball and Community Awards on Feb. 4. The 78th annual event is intended to recognize the valuable contributions and leadership of the most engaged professions in Douglas. The event will take place at the Douglasville Conference Center at 6:00 p.m. The Winter Ball Silent Auction is open now; the link is available here. (Douglas County Chamber)
  2. If you need a place to get rid of sensitive documents, Douglas County has you covered. On Mar. 25, head to the Lithia Springs Public Library for a free community shredding event from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Residents can bring up to three copy paper size boxes or three household kitchen-size plastic bags worth of material to shred per vehicle. Staples, binder clips, etc. do not need to be removed prior to shredding. (Patch)
  3. Applications are now being accepted for Taste of Douglasville 2023 vendors. The Cultural Arts Council Douglasville/Douglas County is seeking vendors for the May 20 event which will take place in the downtown Douglasville area from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The free event is the largest one-day party in the community and offers food tastings ranging from $1 to $5.   4. For the first time, a Georgia judicial watchdog agency is recommending that a state appellate court judge be removed. Judge Christian Coomer of nearby Cartersville has been on voluntary suspension since the beginning of the year with pay due to multiple ethics violations that were made public. After seven days of hearings, a three-member panel appointed by The Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQD) has made its nonbinding recommendation; now Georgia Supreme Court has the final say.   5. On Feb. 17, the City of Douglasville's Tree Board will be hosting an Arbor Day Celebration. The event will dedicate trees that have been planted at Hunter Park to provide shade for fans and teams at the ball fields. The celebration will take place at 2:00 p.m. near the ball fields at Hunter Park. (Press Release Desk)

  • After nine rounds of intense spelling, Turner Middle School's Gabriele Coner was named Douglas County Georgia Schools' Spelling Bee Champion on Jan. 24. Behind Coner, Yahminisakti Chandrasekaran, an eighth grader at Fairplay Middle School, took second place while Earlene Igbeare, a fifth grader at Arbor Station Elementary School, took third place.
