  1. Conn's HomePlus recently opened a location in Douglasville, along with two other locations in the metro Atlanta area. The retailer now has 172 locations in 15 states, including six stores in Georgia. Conn's offers home goods, such as appliances, furniture, electronics. They offer next-day delivery on in-stock items and qualifying purchases. (FurnitureToday.com)
  2. The Cultural Arts Council has announced their winners from the recent Taste of Douglasville Festival! The event drew over 12,000 attendees and was a big hit for the downtown area. Red Velvet Bistro won the award for Best Presentation, and Gabe's Downtown won for Best Entree with their Cajun eggrolls. The prize for Best Dessert went to the caramel cheesecake ice pop from Frio's Gourmet Pops, and the HUD Food Truck won for most items sold.   3. Chestnut Log Middle School recently welcomed Brigadier General Kelvin D. McElroy of the U.S. Airforce. He spoke to over 70 students, sharing his story and discussing career opportunities with the U.S. Airforce. General McElroy answered student questions, and even posed for pictures and signed autographs for students who asked. General McElroy's visit was part of the school's PBIS reward program.   4. The Church Street Farmers Market will be kicking off next week on May 30! The market takes place on Tuesdays from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at 6730 Church Street. On opening day, there will be a cooking demonstration by Lucy, the author of A Cook and Her Books blog. The market offers a variety of local produce, bread, meat and seafood, soaps, crafts, and more.   5. The Douglas County Museum of History and Art is inviting community members to bring in an item from your garden to next week's Flower Show.
