Cornhole Vs. Coronavirus: Douglas Company Helps With Face Shields

DOUGLASVILLE, GEORGIA — During the coronavirus pandemic, everybody's doing their part. West Georgia Cornhole — which makes game boards for corn hole, among other things — is no exception. The Douglasville company has repurposed its laser cutter to mass produce plastic face shields for Paces MedEquip, which makes personal protective equipment for frontline healthcare workers.

Rebecca Solar of Paces told Atlanta TV station Fox5 that it contacted West Georgia Cornhole to see if its shop could help fill an order for at least 20,000 masks. "We’ve got customers right here in Atlanta that are using these, we’ve got customers in Augusta, Solar said. "It’s a race to see how many we can make."

Brandon Greba, owner of West Georgia Cornhole, accepted the challenge. He estimates the company has made 10,000 shields so far along with its corn hole games, which Greba said may be the perfect activity for social distancing. In fact, the company has since hired several new employees who've been laid off elsewhere to meet the demand for both face shields and 50-60 corn hole board sets a day.

"It was crazy because I kind of thought it would be the opposite, with people kind of watching their money not knowing what's going to happen with this virus," Greba told Fox5. "It took me by surprise because it's the total opposite. We've been going full-steam with the boards."
