  1. Several Douglas County officials, including Chairwoman Romona Jackson Jones, Commissioner Henry Mitchell, and Tax Commissioner Greg Baker, were indicted Friday on one count of conspiracy in restraint of free and open competition in transactions. The indictment alleges that the defendants helped S&A Express win a 2018 janitorial bid by opening and reviewing sealed bids, then adding S&A's bid to match the lowest bid. Despite the allegations, County Administrator David Corbin released a statement stating that the county remains committed to delivering superior public service to its citizens and will focus on advancing the county in a positive direction.   2. Micah Gravley, Vice President of Business Development for Talitrix and a Douglasville native, has been elected to represent Georgia's Congressional District 14 on the State Transportation Board. The 14-member board governs the Georgia Department of Transportation and helps determine policy. Gravley was elected by a caucus of state representatives and senators to replace Jerry Shearin, who did not seek re-election after serving for five years. (Northwest Georgia News)
  3. U.S. Olympian Elana Meyers Taylor, who was raised in Douglasville, is one of four Olympic athletes to have their likeness replicated in a bobblehead. The limited-edition figurines were unveiled on the morning of Monday, Feb. 27 at the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum. Meyers Taylor, now 37, has received five medals over the course of her impressive bobsledding career. (redlakenationnews.com)
  4. A Douglasville high school athlete has committed to the University of Colorado. Kasen Weisman, who attends South Paulding High, was originally committed to Kansas University's football team. However, newly-hired head coach Deion Sanders reportedly "knew Kasen was his guy" and helped facilitate a last-minute flip. (Yardbarker)
