Douglas County Accepting Youth Commission Applications

The Douglas County Department of External Affairs is accepting applications from high school sophomores and juniors for the Douglas County Youth Commission. The program is dedicated to educating young citizens about the importance of being actively conscious of their local government environment and the opportunities available in the public sector, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners (DCBC) said in a news release.

The program is in partnership with the Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students (GCAPS) of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia and the Douglas County Citizen's Academy Alumni Association.

“Being a part of the Youth Commission gives Douglas County teenagers an opportunity to learn how our county government works – while also having the chance to be heard and share their perspective on issues affecting the lives of young people in areas of social, educational, recreational, cultural, and law enforcement,” external affairs coordinator Tabrieah Cobb said in the release. “Our main goal with the Youth Commission is to provide leadership development and experience that will enable the youth to become productive citizens and leaders in our community.”

The program will run from September through April and will meet once a month on Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
