Douglas County BOC Marks National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to proclaim April 9-15, 2023, as National Telecommunicators Week in Douglas County, Georgia.

“When emergencies occur, the first calls are made to 911. Our citizens worst days and moments are typical workdays for our team of dedicated employees who work tirelessly to keep both our citizens and our first responders safe,” said Katrina R. Harley, Director, Douglas County E-911. “This week, we honor and celebrate the work of our telecommunicators.”

The proclamation honors public safety telecommunicators in Douglas County for their commitment, service, and sacrifice. Every year during the second week of April the telecommunications personnel within the public safety community are nationally honored.

The prompt response of police officers, firefighters, and paramedics during an emergency is critical to the protection of life and preservation of property. The Public Safety Telecommunicators are the first and most critical contact that the citizens have with emergency services. They are also the single vital link for the county’s police officers and firefighters by monitoring their activities by radio, providing them with information, and ensuring their safety.

Douglas County’s Public Safety Telecommunicators have contributed substantially to the apprehension of criminals, suppression of fires, and treatment of patients. In the past year each dispatcher has exhibited compassion, understanding, and professionalism during the performance of their job. This week, April 9-15, is in honor of the men and women whose diligence and professionalism keep our county and citizens safe.
