Douglas County BOC Unanimously Passes Balanced $124.9M FY 2023 Budget

Nearly 40 percent is dedicated to Public Safety.

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously, 5-0, to approve a balanced budget of $124.9 million dollars for the fiscal year 2023 during Tuesday, evenings legislative session. Public Safety proved to be a priority for the Board of Commissioners when balancing this budget.

"We approved a budget with 49.2 million dollars which is also 39 % of the 2023 budget dedicated to public safety," said Dr. Romona Jackson Jones, Chairman of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. "We asked citizens to take part in a survey and share with us what their strategic priorities were, and public safety came in No. 1."

The 2023 budget includes a 5% pay increase for all full-time government employees including public safety employees. The BOC previously approved 10% in raises for the public safety employees, and 5% increases for non-public safety employees during the current fiscal year.
The fiscal year 2023 budget includes additional funding for not just the Sheriff’s Office, but technology maintenance, outside agencies from the community, Fire & EMS, and for the county wide radio system.
