Douglas County Chief Judge To Step Down After 31 Years
Chief Superior Court Judge David Emerson said he will resign from his position at the end of the year, one year before his term ends.
DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — David Emerson, the longest-tenured judge in Douglas County and chief superior court judge, will resign at the end of the year.
Emerson — first elected in 1990 — already announced he would not seek reelection in 2022, the Douglas County Sentinel reported, which is when his term expires. But he told the Sentinel on Friday that he'll step down a year early to spend more time with his family.
The Judicial Nominating Commission is in the process of receiving names to fill his seat. Nominations must be received by Nov. 12, and then Gov. Brian Kemp will pick from the five candidates recommended by the JNC.
