Immediate Release February 21, 2022 Lee Road Widening Project To Begin Soon Lee Road Widening Project To Begin Soon Douglas County, GA – Douglas County Transportation Department would like to announce the long-awaited start of construction of the Lee Road Widening Project. The much talk about undertaking will soon get underway. The project will widen Lee Road from Monier Avenue to Fairburn Road from 2 to 4 lanes with a 20-foot median. Sidewalks will also be added along with a multi-use trail and streetlights. Vice Chair & District 2 Commissioner Kelly G. Robinson, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Transportation Committee is passionate about citizens and their mobility. “I’m grateful to the citizens who approved a SPOLST in 2016 that enabled this mobility and connectivity project,” Commissioner Robinson said. “The Lee Road initiative comes in at an estimated $22 million and is the number one infrastructure priority in the County. This project is vital to future economic development and housing. It’s all about the quality of life.” The construction will impact motorists in that region and county leaders will be feverishly working to communicate what is happening and how citizens will be impacted. “Initial right of way clearing activities are set to begin by March 1, 2022,” Transportation Department Director Miguel Valentin said. “This marks the largest project managed directly by Douglas County.” Design work began in 2004; however, lack of funding delayed construction until now. The project will reduce congestion and improve mobility in the area by providing enhanced direct access to I-20 with connectivity to Fairburn Road. When coupled with the proposed widening of Lee Road north of I-20 to Veterans Memorial Highway and the extension of Lee Road south of Fairburn Road to Chapel Hill Road, the corridor will be transformational for the area.
