Douglas County Mathletes Dominate In Perennial Math Competition

Douglas County School System's best math scholars shined in the recent Perennial Math Competition held at Chapel Hill High School.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Douglas County School System's best math scholars shined in the Perennial Math Competition held at Chapel Hill High School Nov. 10. More than 300 students and 57 teams from across the region participated in the international math competition for students in grades 3-12. During the match, high achieving and gifted students completed an individual test and then worked cooperatively to answer questions on a team test. The tests measured logic and reasoning skills as well as flexible math problem-solving abilities. Perennial Math questions are designed to inspire math excellence and to get students excited about science, technology, engineering, and math.

“This challenging competition provided rigorously challenging higher order math problems to boost achievement and have our students work at higher math grade levels,” says Shadra Tomei, Program Challenge Teacher at Chapel Hill Elementary. “We are so proud of the many Douglas County elementary and middle schools who participated and placed in the competition. We can't wait for the next one!”

Math teams from Mirror Lake, Chapel Hill, Holly Springs, Bill Arp, and Dorsett Shoals Elementary Schools and Fairplay and Yeager Middle Schools mastered the competition and will go on to compete online at the national level in May.
