Douglas County Veterans Day Parade Accepting Applicants

Businesses and organizations are welcome to register. Of course, veterans' organizations, military units, vets and more are welcome.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — The 20th annual Douglas County Veterans Day Lighted Parade is accepting entry applicants, according to a release from the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. The nighttime parade will run the evening of the holiday on Monday, Nov. 11.

The county is inviting veterans' groups, military and reserve untis, JRTOC members, marching bands and more to participate in the parade.

"This traditional parade presents the opportunity for Douglas County residents to say 'thank you' to those who have obtained, preserved and continue to protect our freedoms," the release says.

Any and all veterans are welcome to participate in the parade. Vets who want to use a vehicle, however, just have to register. There will be a trolley for active duty, reserve and veterans to ride in, with no reservations necessary.

Parade units will "light themselves up," the release says, as the event starts at 7 p.m. from the Douglas County High School.

Here's the route:

  • Begin at Douglas County High School
  • North on Campbellton Street
  • West on Church Street
  • South on Bowden, Woodrow and Campbellton Streets
  • End at the high school

"I'm thrilled to announce we have commitments from all of our high school marching bands and we are beyond excited for this year's parade to honor our veterans," said Rick Martin, director of Community Relations for Douglas County and in charge of the parade.

No political candidates, signs or campaigning is permitted.

On the same token, no promotional materials for businesses or organizations are allowed, however logos may be displayed if they meet the parade purpose.

Horses are allowed.

The Douglas County Communications Department will approve applications, and there's no cost associated.
