Douglasville To Hold First In-Person Council Meeting Thursday

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — The City of Douglasville begins its second phase of relaxing pandemic restrictions this week, with an in-person city council meeting on Thursday and two community centers reopening next Monday.

The city council meeting will be the first one in person since pandemic restrictions began. Attendees — including Mayor Rochelle Robinson and council members — will have to stay 6 feet apart. Citizens still can speak to the council via Zoom, but they must fill out an online form at least an hour before the meeting so technical arrangements can be made.

On June 1, the Ike Owings Community Center at Hunter Park and Alice Hawthorne Community Center at Jessie Davis Park will both reopen with abbreviated schedules.

Douglasville started the reopening process on May 4 by opening the city hall finance window, the O’Neal Plaza entrance to the welcome center, and the main entrance of the public safety complex. Municipal court sessions resumed on May 20.

“The extra safety measures and an enhanced cleaning and sanitizing schedule has led to a secure reopening to this point,” Robinson said. “We will definitely carry that over to phase two of our incremental reopening.”

Robinson said she expects the city to reopen its remaining buildings by July 1 but that the schedule is “still in discussion and subject to change.”
