DOUGLASVILLE, GA -- The City of Douglasville Community Relations Department has launched an all new podcast series called “Douglasville Impact.”

The half-hour podcast highlights upcoming events, noteworthy news topics, and special guests from around the Douglasville/Douglas County community.

“Aside from providing information via social media, newsletters, and email blasts, we wanted to explore more innovative ways to communicate with citizens. Starting a podcast is something that is pretty unique to local government,” Community Relations Director Jason Post said.

Currently on its fourth episode, the “Douglasville Impact” podcast releases on a bi-weekly basis. Although there is a standard format, they will have special episodes that could focus on large events, major policy issues that would affect the community, or shows that will take place outside of City Hall.

“It was important for us to allow everyone to access City information wherever they are and however they like. Now, they can get information on their commute to or from work, or even if they’re on vacation,” Post explained.

Although some Community Relations staff has decades of experience in broadcasting, launching a podcast did not come without its own set of challenges.

“Even though we had all the equipment we needed to succeed on the technical side,” Post said, “it was challenging to come up with the format and execution of the show itself. There aren’t too many shows out there with a sole focus on local government issues, so we’ve had to toy with what works and what doesn’t.”

“Douglasville Impact” can be found on iTunes, Spotify, Google Play Music, and Podbean. They also release the audio of each episode on their Facebook page or on the City’s website at www.douglasvillega.gov/douglasvilleimpact.
