Douglasville Man Accused Of Aggravated Assault Shot By Deputies
Douglas County authorities exchanged gunfire with the man Wednesday at a Highway 5 home.
DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A 30-year-old man accused of assaulting a family member with a gun, barricading himself inside of a home, and then, shooting at deputies Wednesday was shot by deputies.
The shooting happened around 2:45 p.m. in the 3800 block of Highway 5, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said residents of the home had been assaulted by the family member.
The residents found a safe location, but when deputies attempted to call the man out of the home, he refused to comply, authorities said. An aggravated assault warrant and a search warrant were then obtained.

Negotiators with the sheriff's office's Emergency Response Team responded and tried to get the man out of the home. Authorities said the man walked out of the back of the home with a long rifle 30 minutes later and pointed it in the direction of the response team.
The man was accused of shooting at the response team before gunfire was returned from the team. The man then went into a bedroom, and the Georgia State Patrol SWAT responded to the scene.

Then, the man left the home with the weapon tucked in his waist band and was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities said he sustained non-threatening injuries in the gunfire exchange and was taken to a local hospital. Douglas County Jail records show a pending warrant was issued against the man for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the probe in the shooting.
