Here are the top five stories in Douglasville today:

  1. Douglasville native Megan Danielle is on her way to becoming an "American Idol." The singer secured a spot in American Idol's top 26 contestants – expanded from the usual 24 contestants in previous seasons. Megan Danielle sang Adele's "Easy On Me" to land her spot as a semifinalist. Next week, she and the other 25 contestants will head to Hawaii to sing live in front of an audience at a Disney resort. 2. The Brothers That Just Do Gutters, a gutter contractor in Douglasville, has launched a community initiative called Gutters in Gratitude, offering a free gutter installation to a homeowner in need. The program is open to all Atlanta Metro area residents who are experiencing financial difficulties and cannot afford to repair or replace their gutters. Homeowners can nominate themselves or someone they know by posting a picture of the nominee's home on social media with the hashtag #AtlGuttersGiveaway and tagging The Brothers That Just Do Gutters. (openPR)
  3. Global Real Estate Advisors (GREA) has successfully arranged the sale of Douglasville Proper, an affordable housing community in Douglasville for $6.5 million. The 100-unit LIHTC property was sold by Signature Management. The property's affordability will be maintained by the new owner, S & S Capital Partners, which plans to preserve the one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans of the complex, which was built in 1995. 4. In case you missed it: Douglas County has launched its 2023 Transit Master Plan, in collaboration with the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority, to provide a comprehensive vision for the county's transit system. The plan will identify short-, mid-, and long-term transit priorities, evaluate alternatives to fulfill public transportation needs, and lay the groundwork for partnerships to address transit needs that support the county's growth and economic development. Public engagement is a key component of the plan, and the county is encouraging stakeholders to participate in surveys and workshops to shape the plan's recommendations. (Patch)
  5. Gov. Brian Kemp signed Senate Bill 319 on Tuesday, which allows permitless carry in the state, making it the 25th state with such a law. The move is seen as a return to Gov. Kemp's roots as a conservative insurgent who supported gun rights but had grown quieter about permitless carry after taking office. Gov. Kemp mentioned this bill will help Georgians protect themselves while giving a speech outside of Gable Sporting Goods in Douglasville. (AP News)
