Douglasville Native Makes 'American Idol' Top 3; Celebration Planned
A Hometown Hero event is scheduled Tuesday for Douglasville resident Megan Danielle, who will sing in the 'American Idol' finale Sunday.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A Douglasville native has made the top 3 on "American Idol," and her hometown is planning to celebrate Tuesday.
The Hometown Hero event for gospel singer Megan Danielle, 20, will be televised and aired on the "American Idol" finale at 8 p.m. Sunday on ABC, county officials said in a news release.
Danielle advanced to the top 3 with a rendition of "Carried Me With You" from the Disney film "Onward" during the singing competition's Disney night. She also sang "You Can't Stop the Girl" from the film "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil."

The singer expressed joy about making it to the contest's finale. In one post on her Facebook page, she wrote: "WOW! Thank y’all I’m so honored and grateful! Let’s keep sharing the light and love of Jesus. Top #3 #Idol #MeganOnIdol #TeamMegan #Top3"
Shortly after, she posted: "I’m still trying to wrap my head around making into the finale but remember how I said something cool is coming soon???? The top 5 competitors prepared for Disney night with a visit to Disneyland, Danielle said.
The celebration for her will be hosted by Douglas County government, the City of Douglasville and the Douglas County School System.
“We are thrilled to welcome Megan home and celebrate her success,” Douglas County Board of Commissioners Vice-Chairman Tarenia Carthan said in the release. “We are so proud of what she has accomplished and the hope she represents for all of us who dare to dream big.”
The free celebration will start at 2:30 p.m. with a parade on Church Street, beginning at Club Drive in downtown Douglasville. A pep rally and city/county proclamations will follow at O'Neal Plaza.
The evening will end at 7:30 p.m. with a concert headlined by Danielle at her alma mater, Douglas County High School, county officials said.
Entrance to the concert will be available on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is reached. County officials said weapons are not allowed on school premises and a clear bag policy will be in effect.
