Douglasville Police: Distracted Driving Caused Fatal Crash

Police say a Douglasville man was distracted by his cell phone when he collided with another car, killing a Lithia Springs woman.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — A Douglasville man who police say was distracted by his cell phone was charged with vehicular homicide for an April 2 crash that killed a Lithia Springs woman.

The Douglas County Sentinel reports that Erion James Dix, 20, is charged with felony vehicular homicide, reckless driving, failure to use due care and failure to maintain lane in the accident, which killed Katelyn Keith, 22. The accident occurred on Riverside Parkway near Roberts Road in Douglasville.

Keith’s young child was in the back seat of the car and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Douglasville Police Maj. J.R. Davidson.

Davidson told The Douglas County Sentinel that Dix turned himself in last Sunday after charges were filed. Dix appeared in court Monday and was released on a $54,000 bond.

According to the arrest warrant, Dix was using his cell phone when police say he crossed the center line and turn lane before colliding head-on with the car driven by Keith.
