Douglasville Special Election To Fill Late Councilman's Seat

The Douglasville City Council has called for a special election to fill the vacant seat left by late Councilman Mike Miller.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA – The Douglasville City Council has been provided with options of when they can hold an election to fill the vacant seat left by the late Councilman Mike Miller. Possibilities included a date in March and June of 2019 or to simply hold the election on the regularly scheduled voting day in November of 2019.

During a recent regular Douglasville City Council meeting, the Council approved an ordinance that calls for a special election to fill the recently vacated Ward 2, Post 1 council seat. The special election will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. In addition, they have approved a resolution setting the qualifying fees for the special and general elections occurring in 2019. In accordance with State law, the qualifying fess for the office of the Mayor have been set at $1,188 and $387 for the office of council member.

“We’ve had various conversations,” Mayor Rochelle Robinson said of the Council’s determination to hold the special election in June, “and this was the consensus of the majority of Council.”

Individuals interested in running for the vacant seat must submit their candidacy to the City of Douglasville Clerk’s Office during the qualifying period which runs from Monday, April 22, 2019 through Wednesday, April 24, 2019. To complete the qualifying period, a candidate must submit a fee in the amount of $387.
