Off-Duty Cop Shot And Killed By Cousin During Fight: GBI
An off-duty officer was shot and killed by his cousin during a fight in Palmetto, Georgia Tuesday, according to the GBI.
PALMETTO, GA -- An off-duty officer was shot and killed by his cousin during a fight in Palmetto, Georgia Tuesday, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Off-duty Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Edmond Irvin, 25, was shot and killed. Danny Long, 17, identified as Irvin’s cousin, was arrested and transported to the Fayette County Jail. Long has been charged with one count of murder and one count of terroristic threats.
Preliminary information indicates at approximately 9:41 p.m., the Palmetto Police Department received a 911 call in reference to a person being shot at 519 Snowfall Terrace in Palmetto, Coweta County. Officers responded to the scene and learned that off-duty Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Irvin had been shot and killed inside of the home. Police believe Long was at the home when Irvin and Long were in a physical fight. Long shot Irvin with a handgun and fled the scene, according to the GBI.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be provided to the Coweta County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
