DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — As the Atlanta Braves' World Series parade prepares to take over the metro Atlanta area Friday, Douglas County School System officials are giving the DCSS community a chance to attend the historic event.

Douglas Schools officials announced in a news release Wednesday that all schools and offices will be closed Friday to allow families and staff members to go to the parade and/or post-parade celebration at Truist Park.

"Winning the World Series is one of those events that our children will remember for the rest of their lives. Whether families choose to watch the parade from home or attend in person, we will all be making memories," Superintendent Trent North said in the release. "Some important life experiences take place away from the classroom, and this is one of them."

Officials said that while they know closing schools will be an inconvenience to some parents, they wanted to give employees and students this opportunity, and avoid a high absenteeism rate.

"As always, thank you for your support. Go Braves!" North said.
