Google Kicks Off Program With Douglas Boys & Girls Club

Staff and volunteers (trained by Georgia Tech) will teach students of all ages Code.org curriculum through fun, interactive online training.

Last night, Google joined the Boys and Girls Club in Douglas County and Georgia Tech to officially kick off the Douglas County Boys & Girls Club “Google CS Club.”

The club is where staff and volunteers (trained by Georgia Tech) will teach students of all ages Code.org curriculum through fun, interactive online training.

Georgia Tech’s CEISMC will help reach more students by building capacity to offer computer science curriculum in Douglas County schools.

The program will place an emphasis on getting underrepresented minorities and girls excited about computer science, as they are less likely to pursue careers in the field.

The project is expected to last two years after which the program should be self-sustaining via Boys & Girls Club staff/volunteers and teachers in the school system.

This is all part of Google’s ongoing commitment and investment to the Douglas County community and the state of Georgia.
