Heroes & Champions Camp No More

The camp had advertised in Douglasville Patch's events, but has been canceled without warning.

WSB-TV is reporting that the Heroes & Champions Camp, scheduled to start today at the University of Georgia, has been canceled.

The announcement came without any warning and without word on when or whether families will receive refunds - $325 to $375 a session.

Both the website and Facebook page for the four-day camp appear to have been removed.

Mitch Gartenburg, director of UGA Department of Recreational Sports, said Heroes and Champions informed the university of the cancellation July 6 without any explanation.

“Right now, we know as little as anybody,” Gartenburg said. “We put extra staff on this morning expecting a lot of people to show up. Fortunately, no parents or kids have showed up yet. It’s disappointing for the kids and I understand that.”

He deferred further comment to the organization itself.

Patch would like to apologize if the event listing here led you to lose money on the camp. If we find out more about what happened, we’ll let you know.
