Here are the top five stories in Douglasville today:
- Early yesterday morning, I-20 eastbound lanes were blocked at Fairburn Road due to a tractor-trailer losing its load on the interstate. Douglasville drivers experience delays from Highway 5 to Fairburn Road beginning around 5:00 a.m. Lanes reopened about an hour and a half later. (Douglasville Police Department via Facebook)
- The Douglasville City Council will hold public hearings tomorrow, Feb. 2, and Monday, Feb. 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the Douglasville Conference Center Auditorium on two community issues. The first issue on the agenda is a request for a zoning change from LI (Light Industrial District) to GC (General Commercial District) for an approximately three-acre plot on Plaza 92 Drive. The second issue is a request to reduce the minimum square footage for a three-bedroom multifamily unit to 1,200 square feet, for a nearly 54-acre site on Lee Road. (Douglasville Georgia)
- The first night of the Douglasville Police Department's new session of the Foundational Transformation of Men Program was a success. Following an introduction to the program, attendees engaged in a valuable discussion on the power and purpose of men. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is gearing up for its 26th class of the Citizens Law Enforcement Academy (CLEA). Participants will learn about criminal law, use of force, and other law enforcement topics, and will even have the opportunity to ride along with a deputy. The 12-week class begins on Thursday, Feb. 9 and runs each Thursday (with the exception of spring break on Apr. 6). - The Douglasville Police Department (DPD) held its first town hall meeting last night, Jan. 31. The meeting's agenda included violent crime statistics and the 2022 End of the Year Report.
