Here are the top five stories in Douglasville today:

  1. Law enforcement officials from throughout Douglas County gathered last week to discuss how to keep the community safe amid staff shortages. The meeting was held on Jun. 8 at the Douglasville Police Department and was attended by Sheriff Tim Pounds, Police Chief Gary Sparks, and others. During the meeting, law enforcement leaders reportedly committed to coordinating manpower more effectively in order to protect the public where needed. (Douglas County Sentinel)
  2. A Douglasville woman was indicted on shoplifting and trespassing charges by a grand jury on Jun. 8. Phyllis McGraw, 51, was arrested by police on Mar. 31. Officials say McGraw also has prior shoplifting convictions. (Douglas County Sentinel)
  3. The City of Douglasville will have a modified sanitation schedule next week. In observance of Juneteenth, trash pickup will not occur on Monday, Jun. 19. The Monday route will be serviced the following day, Jun. 20. Anyone with questions about the revised schedule is advised to contact the Douglasville Sanitation Department at (770) 920-3005.   4. Douglasville Parks and Recreation is hosting a self-defense class for women ages 14 and older this summer. Classes will be held Saturdays, 3:00-5:00 p.m., from Jun. 24 through Aug. 5 at the Ike Owings Community Center.
