Latest Douglas County Coronavirus Update
Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is affecting Douglasville and Douglas County:
DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — The new coronavirus outbreak in Georgia and across the nation continues to affect Douglas County, where schools are closed for the rest of the academic year and businesses remain shuttered in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases and deaths in Georgia continues to rise: 9,156 total on Tuesday evening, 1,899 hospitalized and 348 dead. At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Georgia Department of Public Health reports Fulton County's 1,185 cases are the most of any Georgia locality, with 39 deaths recorded. The highest number of deaths is in Dougherty County, with 56; its total number of cases rank second at 973. The next highest numbers of cases are in DeKalb with 673 cases, Cobb with 566 cases, Gwinnett with 540 cases, Clayton with 278 cases and Hall with 215 cases.

DOUGLAS COUNTY CASES, DEATHS
Douglas County tallied 117 coronavirus cases as of Thursday evening, as well as five deaths. All of the deceased were 58 or older. Only two were known to have underlying health issues.

HEALTH CARE
Test kits are still in short supply in Georgia, so call your health provider first before visiting the office. MORE
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp Wednesday ordered all schools to stay closed for in-person instruction for the remainder of the academic year. In Douglas County, spring break still will be observed April 6-10. Digital learning will continue, with phase 2 set to begin April 13. Current information is posted on the Douglas County Schools' website.
CANCELLATIONS
The 2020 Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival, Garden Tour & Flower Show scheduled for June 6-7 has been cancelled for the year.
