Here are the top five stories in Douglasville today:
- The City of Douglasville has created a Communications Survey to understand how the community gets and shares news and local information. The city will use information gathered from the survey to measure its efforts and adjust based on needs and wants. Take the five-minute survey here. (City of Douglasville, Georgia)
- Deputies are now investigating the death of 21-year-old Keontae Chenault, who was found dead in Douglas County last week, as a homicide. Chenault was originally from Dekalb County and was first reported missing on May 22. His cause of death has not been released at this time. (WSB-TV)
- Hunter Park playground is back after major renovations and is better than ever. The park's playground is open with newly renovated equipment and is located at 8830 Gurley Road. Check out photos of the renovated playground here. (City of Douglasville-Government via Facebook)
- The Douglas County School System is accepting donations for its annual school supplies drive through Monday, Jul. 17. You can drop off donations of school supplies, personal hygiene items, socks, and underwear at the DCSS Central Office during regular business hours. (Douglas County Georgia Schools via Facebook)
- In 2022, Douglasville native Stephen Rollins set up a foundation called Global Ukraine Initiative to help the war-torn country. So far, Rollins has been able to raise money for items like generators, heaters, and winter clothing. - Registration for the Kids Law Enforcement Academy is currently open. The Academy for fifth, sixth, and seventh-grade students interested in law enforcement will take place Tuesday, Jul. 18 through Thursday, Jul. 20 from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Contact Deputy Shelly Kimball at skimball@sheriff.douglas.ga.us to register a child. - This month's second Board of Commission Work Session will take place Tuesday, Jun. 20, and the Board of Commission Meeting will take place Wednesday, Jun. 21. The meeting schedules were readjusted to honor the federal holiday of Juneteenth. (Douglas County Georgia)
- The Douglasville Parks and Recreation Department will host a Girls Flag Football Clinic on Monday, Jun. 26 and Tuesday, Jun. 27. This clinic will take place at the newly renovated Hunter Park. Girls aged seven to 12 can register here. (City of Douglasville-Government via Facebook)
