Major Drug Bust: THC-Infused Edibles Disguised As Fruity Pebbles

The Villa Rica Police Department made a major drug bust March 18, which included 8 pounds of THC-infused edibles.

VILLA RICA, GA -- The Villa Rica Police Department made a major drug bust recently following a traffic stop which included eight pounds of THC-infused edibles.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Javonta LaShawn Jones, 24, and the passenger was identified as Ashley Rhyne, 24. Both are from Villa Rica.

Police were conducting a license checkpoint March 18 at Edge Rd and Liberty Rd. Officer Thomas Thornhill began to check the driver of a Ford Fusion and noticed a large bag of methamphetamine on the center console. During a search of the vehicle officers also found a large quantity of pre-packaged edibles infused with THC which is the illegal ingredient contained in marijuana. Also found were 11 rolled marijuana cigarettes, a bag of marijuana, and a large amount of money.

Officers discovered that the driver and passenger had just left a room at American Inn and Suites on Edge Rd. After obtaining a search warrant, the officers searched the room and discovered another large quantity of the THC infused edibles, approximately 53 grams of methamphetamine, digital scales, a vacuum sealer, and packaging materials.

The total estimated weight of the drugs was 110.2 grams or 3.8 ounces of methamphetamine, 3,595.2 grams or almost 8 lbs. of THC infused edibles, and 18 grams of marijuana.

Jones and Rhyne were both charged with trafficking, intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug related objects. Jones was also charged with no driver’s license and obstruction after he resisted arrest.

Due to the location of the license checkpoint being in Douglas County and the motel being located in Carroll County, both suspects were charged in both counties.
