Here are the five top stories in Douglasville today:

  1. Tomorrow, the City of Douglasville is hosting an Electronics and Metal Recycling Event from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Residents can drop off electronics, scrap metal, appliances, items with metal content, or items that have a cord or use batteries. There will be a $5 charge for each TV or monitor but other items are free to drop off. The Douglas County Lions Club will also be on hand to accept eyeglasses and hearing aids. 2. Douglas County Parks and Recreation announced that Therapeutic Bingo will be happening on May 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Deer Lick Park. This event will include a nacho bar, brownies, and drinks for $5, or participants can bring their own lunch. Those interested in attending should reserve a spot by May 8 by calling Kim at (678) 823-2450. (Douglas County Parks and Recreation)
  3. Rent prices in Metro Atlanta are down almost 2.5 percent from last year and two percent from last month, according to rent researcher Jon Leckie. However, he also said that wages have not necessarily kept pace with rising rents, estimating that a person would need a raise of eight or nine percent to keep up with housing costs. According to Rent.com, Douglasville was one of the cities in Georgia with the largest increase in rent over the last year. (11 Alive)
  4. Officials with the Secretary of State office are warning about an increase in people impersonating police officers and security guards in the Metro Atlanta area. Several impersonators have been arrested so far this year, including a man in nearby Marietta with a fake police badge and drugs and a woman in Dallas who impersonated a GBI agent. Officials say that legitimate security guards must wear a badge or patch identifying the agency they're working for. Residents are encouraged to call 911 if they suspect an officer or security guard is not legitimate. (11 Alive)
  5. The Douglas County Animal Shelter has several furry friends who are ready to find their new homes! Douglas County Animal Services is hosting an adoption event tomorrow at Pet Supermarket from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. where you can meet some adorable and adoptable pets.
