Here are the top five stories today in Douglasville:

  1. Douglas County Sheriff's Office pulled over a vehicle on May 27 at the Post Road Shell Station for speeding and a faulty brake light. The driver was found to have neither a valid driver's license nor insurance. During a search of the vehicle, authorities discovered around 277 grams of methamphetamine, eight grams of marijuana, an unidentified substance, and two scales. As a result, the driver was arrested and faced charges including trafficking methamphetamine, possessing less than 1 ounce of marijuana, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, a brake light violation, and speeding.   2. Douglas County elementary schools will be organizing a Kindergarten Camp from Jul. 17-20. The camp is exclusively for students who are registered for Kindergarten. Parents are encouraged to register their Kindergarteners as soon as possible to secure their spot at the camp.   3. During the Red Cross Battle of the Badges event, Douglasville Police Department Lieutenant Roessel and 48 other donors contributed a total of 46 pints of blood. The community of Douglasville/Douglas County showed tremendous support for the event, and the organizers expressed their gratitude. The results of the battle against Haralson and Carroll Counties are not available yet, but everyone involved is grateful for the community's dedication to the cause.   4. The Douglasville Police Department is organizing a free public handgun clinic on Jun. 6. The clinic takes place on the first Tuesday of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Interested individuals can still join, as there is available space. The clinic will provide instruction on basic gun laws, handgun safety, and fundamental shooting skills. To participate, attendees must be 18 years old, make a reservation, and contact the DPD Training Department via email or by calling Cpl. Snyder for more information and sign-up details.
