Morris Resigns From Douglas County Board Of Education

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA -- Douglas County District 5 board member Jeff Morris has announced plans to resign from the Douglas County Board of Education.

Morris announced his plans June 7 with an effective date of June 17. The Board of Education will announce plans to fill his vacancy at a later date. The three-term board member plans to devote his full-time attention to a new career endeavor and spending time with his two grandchildren.

"I am grateful to my fellow board members for the opportunities we have had to create and fulfill board objectives during my tenure," he said. "With each other's support, we have worked to implement strategies to improve student performance and growth. These efforts have allowed us to fulfill our mission of improving the college and career readiness of every student."

Superintendent Trent North said Morris has been an ardent community leader and supporter for several decades.

“Mr. Morris’ commitment to excellence has been an inspiration to this community. He is a strong advocate for public education who will be remembered for his desire to see every student achieve educational excellence. His impact on the Douglas County School System will never be forgotten.”

Morris previously worked in the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office. He will begin working this summer alongside Executive Secretary David Emadi with the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission. Emadi is a 2006 Chapel Hill High School graduate and distinguished alum of the Douglas County School System.

Morris extended his thanks to his board colleagues and the Douglas County community for their support.

Morris’ district includes Alexander High, Bill Arp Elementary, Chapel Hill High, Dorsett Shoals Elementary, Fairplay Middle, Holly Springs Elementary, Mason Creek Elementary, Mason Creek Middle, South Douglas Elementary and Yeager Middle School. He served as Vice Chairman of the Board from 2012 through 2014 and served as Chairman in 2011. The senior most member of the Board of Education, Morris began his term with the Board of Education in 2009.
