- The city's popular Food Truck Mondays return this week, commencing on Jul. 17 at its new fixed location on Church Street in front of O'Neal Plaza. For the event's duration, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Church Street will be closed between Price and Bowden Streets, with parking accessible from Spring Street in the Conference Center deck. - The Judicial Qualifications Commission of Georgia has rejected motions to dismiss an ongoing ethics investigation concerning Douglas County Probate Judge Christina Peterson, with the proceedings set to recommence in September. The rejection follows over a month after Peterson's counsel argued for the probe's dismissal and sought a certificate of immediate review in an initial hearing on May 30. The Commission's Hearing Panel stated that the order denying Peterson's motion was not of such importance that it warranted immediate review. (Subscription: Law.com)
- Authorities are on the hunt for Ashlarene Wells, a 32-year-old Paulding County woman, accused of committing insurance fraud, forgery, and identity theft by claiming thousands of dollars under her deceased mother's name. The Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's office alleges that in 2021, Wells filed 13 claims under her own policy and her late mother's, submitting falsified documents showing impossible care dates for her mother, post-mortem. The suspect, who accrued over $39,000 from the false claims and whose arrest warrants were issued on Jul. 5, remains at large. (WSB-TV)
